Alighting in Northern Michigan in the mid-90’s, Marie Lamothe, originally from rural Quebec, fell in love with the woods, waters, birds and flowers of the area. Alighting in Northern Michigan in the mid-90’s, Marie Lamothe, originally from rural Quebec, fell in love with the woods, waters, birds and flowers of the area. Since then she has used her architectural background and skills as a painter to share her delight with the natural world so that her work might provide a haven from the complexities and vicissitudes of daily life.
The thread that runs through all her work is an enchantment with light and colour. Extensive on-site studies, sketches, and photographs form the basis of work continued in the studio. Drawing on her training, the painterly realism she favors incorporates a strong sense of design, colour, and composition. Freshness and vitality are balanced by a sense of simplicity and serenity.
As an expression of her belief in the process of art and the value of craft and work, she has made a commitment to offer only original works of art. The painting in hand honours the individuality of every living thing and is the ultimate expression of all the paintings that preceded it. In the end, it is about joy.
Hers is an invitation to share in that joy.
